Option 40 contract requirements

Currently, there are 150 Option 40 contracts available each month for Infantrymen. Other MOS generally provide 10 contracts or fewer. Unfortunately, the contracts for the year are typically filled within the first few months they are released.

There are a limited amount of option 40 contracts and they depend on your MOS as well. Go to your recruiter in October or November as that’s when it’s a new fiscal year for the Army. Tell your recruiter you won’t sign until you have one; that will usually do the trick.

Regardless of the course, all candidates must meet the course requirements in order to serve in the Ranger Regiment. If the applicants can't get an option 40 then, as long as they meet the requirements, they will have the opportunity to engage the Ranger LNO while in basic training. In theory the LNO is to brief every soldier on Sand Hill, however in practice some times scheduling does not permit. Option 40 is an enlistment option that will slot you to go to the 75th Ranger Regiment as an 11B (Infantryman) or 11C (Mortarman). This track starts in One Station Unit Training (OSUT) as either an 11B or 11C. You will then attend Airborne School and then the Ranger Assessment and Selection Program 1 (RASP 1). GED with a 50 or higher in the ASVAB But he's a support mos so it's a bit different. You are correct that if you commission you will not get an option 40. They best way to go into the 75th is to have it in your contract. If you do not pass rasp you will go to an airborne unit. If you get to a unit there is a very small chance they will send you to rasp. Anyone regret getting an Op 40 contract? Anyone ever wish they did something else besides getting an Option 40 contract for the regiment, regardless of MOS? This thread is archived. 18X (18 XRAY) isn't actually a Military Occupation Specialty (MOS), but you can select that as your pre-enlistment option as you depart for Basic Combat Training (BCT). You can still get to Army Special Forces from the Army and request a transfer to attend SFAS - Special Forces Assessment and Selection.
