If the applicants can't get an option 40 then, as long as they meet the requirements, they will have the opportunity to engage the Ranger LNO while in basic training. In theory the LNO is to brief every soldier on Sand Hill, however in practice some times scheduling does not permit. Option 40 is an enlistment option that will slot you to go to the 75th Ranger Regiment as an 11B (Infantryman) or 11C (Mortarman). They best way to go into the 75th is to have it in your contract. If you do not pass rasp you will go to an airborne unit. If you get to a unit there is a very small chance they will send you to rasp. Anyone regret getting an Op 40 contract? This thread is archived. 18X (18 XRAY) isn't actually a Military Occupation Specialty (MOS), but you can select that as your pre-enlistment option as you depart for Basic Combat Training (BCT). You can still get to Army Special Forces from the Army and request a transfer to attend SFAS - Special Forces Assessment and Selection.
